These are the best things to do in Hungary during the beautiful Autumn weather
Unfortunately, summer has ended, and September has already started. The beaches are closing, and everyone is preparing for school now. The weather is changing to chilly mornings and foggy, gloomy autumn days, with an earlier sunset as we approach the harsh winter.
Except that it is not, or at least not yet. Although September, and with it the autumn season has started, the good weather of the summer is still with us in Hungary, and according to Nuus, during the first weekend of September, there will be a lot of sunshine, and the maximum temperature is expected to be between 22 °C and 27 °C for Saturday, and between 20 °C and 25 °C for Sunday. It also seems like this nice weather will stay for quite a while.
This makes it the perfect weather to organise some interesting programmes. In order to make sure you make the most of this beautiful autumn weather, we collected some things you can do and places you can visit during this autumn.
Make sure to spend time in nature
Hungary is a beautiful place, and even though it might be a small country, it is full of mesmerising scenery and jaw-dropping landscapes. If you would like to have an amazing time, we recommend having a tour at the Lake Cave of Tapolca. It was the first cave in Hungary in which electricity was installed, and it has been under strict protection since 1982 due to its geological, genetic, geomorphic hydrological, and biological values. Naturally, there are many more interesting caves in Hungary, and if you are interested, you can read more about some of the most beautiful ones in THIS article.
Hungary is also famous for its waters. But aside from the most known, such as Balaton and the Danube, there are plenty more interesting lakes and other formations all over the country. For some of the most interesting lakes, read THIS article, but if waterfalls are more appealing to you, then click HERE and gather some ideas for travel.
Hungary is also home to many national parks that aim to protect the natural wonders of this small country, but they also serve as sanctuaries for the Hungarian fauna as well. If you would like to know more about the animals that roam the beautiful landscapes of Hungary, THESE are the best national parks to visit while the good weather holds.

There are plenty for city dwellers too
If you feel more comfortable within the confines of a city, you should not be disheartened either. There are plenty of fun things you can do in the city during this summer-like autumn weather. If you do not want to travel to the plains and marshlands of the Hortobágy but would like to see some animals, Hungary has plenty to offer. One of the best zoos in the country is in the capital, the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. It is not only one of the oldest zoos in the world, but compared to other zoos, the collection of species in the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden is outstanding: of all the zoos in Hungary, this zoo has the most species, and only a few institutions in Europe house more animal species. If you are not staying in Budapest, however, HERE are the best zoos in Hungary.
You are not too keen on seeing animals either? Well, maybe you like spas and waterparks. This end-of-the-summer weather seems perfect to visit some of the famous baths and waterparks of Hungary. If you are adventurous, then THESE aquaparks are for you, but if you would like to just relax, then HERE are some baths to discover.
For those of you who miss the festival vibes, you do not have to be disheartened either. Autumn is the season of harvest, and thus, many cities hold wine or grape harvest celebrations, and Budapest is no exception. This year, the Budapest Wine Festival is organised for the 30th time and will be held at the Buda Castle between the 23rd and the 26th of September. There will be plenty of exhibitors for both food and drinks, with a special focus on unique wines, of course. You can also visit Sopron, home of the Kékfrankos, as there will be a similar, albeit smaller grape harvest festival between the 10th and 12th of September, says Programturizmus.
If history is more your forte, then you should visit the Roman Festival in Budapest at the Aquincum Museum and Archaeological Park between the 12th and 13th of September.
